Weekend roundup time! From the multitude of Grunt and Gulp plugins to web apps that can help us visualize our websites with data, learning all the ins and outs of performance tooling is tough. I thought it might be useful to catalogue as many tools out there as I could find.
I started this site with animated gifs and splash pages while living in a cheap rent stabilized apartment. PageSpinner was my jam. I was in love with HTML and certain that the whole world was about to learn it, ushering in a new era of DIY media, free expression, peace and democracy and human rights worldwide. That part didn’t work out so well, although the kids prefer YouTube to TV, so that’s something.

Last week, OptinMonster quietly announced their new stand-alone SaaS tool. In a post on his personal blog, Syed Balkhi shares some more of the reasoning behind that step as well as a little bit about the technical side of things.
Many of you may know OptinMonster as a powerful WordPress lead generation plugin that we created. Well, it’s no longer just a WordPress plugin.
OptinMonster is now a stand-alone (SaaS) lead generation tool that can be used on any website platform. Yup that means WordPress, Drupal, Joomla, Shopify, Magento, BigCommerce, and basically any HTML website.

Dan Mall with some advice on pricing as a freelancer. Especially useful if you’re just starting out. The best advice one could give you is probably “Experiment as much as you can”. I’m working freelance since about four years now, and i’m still experimenting with and adjusting my pricing on pretty much every new job i take on.
For your first paying gig, do what everybody else does: pick an hourly rate. There’s no wrong rate the first time; pick a number out of thin air. (Hint: that’s how everyone does it.)
Your rates will be too low at the beginning, thats pretty much for sure. But eventually you will get better at estimating and more confident at selling.

I think it’s a good choice and many young, hip internet people forget about the millions and millions of people using Windows. That’s obviously not us, it’s our parents, people in offices, people that don’t care for technology. Those people double-click on a small blue “e” everyday to log into their hotmail e-mail accounts to see pictures of children, funny PowerPoint presentations and delete their 200 spam mails, because they don’t know there’s another way of living online.
A nice collection of resources and Cheat Sheets on many different aspects of web design. I already found something interesting in there: Sauce Labs, which could be a cheaper alternative to my (fairly underused) BrowserStack Account.
